Bowman & Company LLP recognizes and cherishes the insights brought about by individual differences, heritages, and experiences. We pride ourselves on making diversity and inclusion a vital part of our recruiting and operational practices. Through a variety of initiatives, we strive to advance the accounting industry's approach to equity.
“Inclusion and diversity are powerful words that must be supported by action. We here at Bowman & Company LLP are committed to ensuring our workplace matches the communities we proudly serve. Our goal is to have a work environment where all individuals enjoy equal opportunities to succeed without being impeded by bias, discrimination, or prejudice. It is our hope that the decisions we make to have a better workplace will be extended to create a better society.” – Michael D. Cesaro, CPA, RMA, Managing Partner
The inclusion and advancement of individuals with diverse backgrounds is core to our mission. We recognize the career hardships that may be experienced on the basis of race, gender, sexual identity and orientation, military service, age, disability, and other individual differences. Bowman is dedicated to creating a workplace that removes bias, promotes individuality, and advocates for eclectic thought. Our initiatives are designed to encourage employees to come as they are and progress, no matter where they stand in their career. It is our hope that these measures maintain a culture of diversity and inclusion.
Our commitment to diversity & inclusion is rooted in our appreciation for the differences that individuals bring to the table. We recognize that we are only as strong as our teams; and our teams are only as strong as the associates they are comprised of. Race, gender, ability, and countless other elements that define identity shape how individuals process information and approach solutions. Our teams are not successful because they assimilate to a particular standard. Instead, every employee is encouraged to provide their unique input to work towards solutions. This process promotes dialogue, breeds innovation, and allows for people of all backgrounds to remain core to the conversation.
Bowman & Company LLP has taken the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ pledge. CEO Action is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace. This commitment is driven by a realization that addressing diversity and inclusion is not a competitive issue, but a societal issue that CEOs can play a critical role in addressing. CEO Action is a unique collaborative of more than 1,600 CEOs of the world’s leading companies and organizations. Bowman’s Managing Partner, Michael D. Cesaro, signed the pledge to strengthen our Firm’s commitment to putting forth infrastructure and actions that help cultivate a work environment where diverse experiences and perspectives are welcomed and where employees feel comfortable and empowered to discuss diversity and inclusion.
Bowman's promise to maintain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment is backed by employee resources and initiatives. Through CPA Exam assistance, CPE course offerings, and alternative work hours, we offer employees a flexible schedule with built-in opportunities to grow professionally. Our partnerships with industry advocates, such as CEO Action and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), allow us to access and incorporate proven approaches to maintaining an equitable workplace. We are carrying out our CEO Action pledge by hosting complex firm-wide discussions, developing a formal mentorship program for novel and incoming associates, and curating a set of best practices based on insight from hundreds of firms across the nation. Through the use of the AICPA Private Companies Practice Section's Diversity and Inclusion Toolkit, we seek to pursue additional employee engagement activities such as workshops, latent bias training, greater employee support resources, and more.
We recognize that differences in identity can also affect equitable attainment of opportunities, resources, and even information needed to grow professionally. Through partnerships with local organizations, we are actively working to create webinars for aspiring accountants. Through these collaborations, we hope to improve the equity of opportunities to gain industry knowledge, participate in networking, and achieve employment.
