On Friday, May 12th, accounting students from Lenape High School in Medford NJ visited Bowman & Company LLP’s Voorhees office to learn about the accounting industry. Education is a critical component to continuing the accounting profession, and Bowman consistently makes a commitment to investing in local education. Even for students who aren’t interested in being an accountant, we feel that learning about finance and money management helps prepare young adults for all types of careers & personal life decisions. Even with such important topics being discussed, our personnel can still make it entertaining!
After arrival and introductions, Bowman staff reviewed the basic duties of the accounting profession as well as the benefits of this career path. Students were able to tour the office to see what the average workday actually looks like in the Firm. In fact, the attendees actually got to review a real-life example of an audit to break down the process; but showing students that we know how to have fun is equally as important as demonstrating our technical expertise & experience. Bowman staff moderated some games such as “Jeopardy” and “Mad Libs” to review the information that was learned. The trip wrapped up with some Q&A, accompanied by lunch.
The event was hosted by Senior Managers Amy Perrone & Mike Thilker (both pictured above, right side). In addition, there were other presentations throughout the day that were made possible through the efforts of many of our staff, including Harry Wills, Dennis Skalkowski, Carol Kemble, Arlena Manno, Jess Beck, Megan Lodes, Mazen Abou Harb, Kyle Santangelo, Hannah Burk, Nick Morse, and Ben Horner, who all stopped in to answer questions and provide input on the profession & industry. Bowman & Company LLP is grateful for the cooperation by Lenape staff, administration, and students. We served as educators for the day, but we also took on the student role. We learned about the youth in our local environment: what interests them, motivates them, and inspires them to choose a career. We were fortunate to share this experience with such a receptive and engaged group of people.
