Bowman & Company LLP has an 84-year history of success, and we're still looking towards the future in everything we do; but the accomplishments we reach today, tomorrow, and beyond are only possible because of the legacy of many talented & dedicated professionals of the past. To quote Sir Isaac Newton, "if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". By acknowledging and appreciating those that have shaped us into who we are today, we can realize the importance of giving to others. To honor the legacies of former Partners Lisa A. Donahue & Jack Dailey, Bowman & Company LLP has established scholarship funds for accounting students in the region. By partnering with the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) Scholarship Fund, Bowman hopes to change the lives of these young adults for the better.

On Thursday April 20th, Bowman Senior Manager Michael Thilker and the South Jersey Honor Flight program made headlines for another successful event for veterans of the US armed forces. The organized effort between South Jersey Honor Flight and Williamstown High School's students & faculty allowed 100 veterans to have an unforgettable experience. Multiple local media outlets, including ABC News (Channel 6) and CBS News (Channel 3), documented the heartwarming display of volunteerism & appreciation for their respective television audiences.

If there's one way to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, it's through acts of service. On MLK Day this year, Bowman & Company LLP employees dedicated their time towards a cause that affects many people in our area: food insecurity. By partnering with Cathedral Kitchen, we were able to provide and serve food to hundreds of individuals in the area.

Everyone has a different idea of what the holidays are supposed to look like. We all have traditions and customs that make this time of year special. No matter what holiday you celebrate or who you share your time with, there's a way for everyone to enjoy the holiday season. One thing that we all have in common, however, is the opportunity to share. We share food around the dinner table, presents, stories with our loved ones, our time & service, and anything else we might find value in. Being in a position to give to others is a privilege, and is a rewarding aspect of life that Bowman encourages. That's why this year, Bowman has partnered with multiple organizations to better our community.

Bowman & Company LLP believes that we have responsibilities to our community stakeholders. The education of students in South Jersey, and those entering the accounting profession in general, is of great importance to us. That is why many Bowman employees are actively involved in mentorship programs with local colleges. By helping accounting students succeed in their studies, we seek to continue and encourage the tradition of producing great talent in the region; sharing our knowledge and experience is the only way to usher in an optimistic future for the profession. In late October, four Bowman Employees (and Rowan Alumni) attended a reception hosted by the Rowan University Accounting Mentorship Program. Bowman & Company LLP commends our Partners and staff who choose to involve themselves in the betterment of their respected communities. We congratulate Partner Todd Saler, who has recently been awarded a Citizen Appreciation Award by the Gloucester Township - Pine Hill Rotary Club. This award acknowledges the time & service Mr. Saler has given to the township as a member of the Gloucester Township - Pine Hill Rotary Club, and his name is now commemorated in Gloucester Township Citizen Appreciation Park along with the previous award winners.

Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to truly celebrate those we appreciate while they are still among us. That's an opportunity that we often forget to take in life. Veterans are a living, breathing history of this country and represent the meaning of dedication & service to its fullest extent. Veterans can teach us all a lesson in believing in something larger than ourselves; you always have an opportunity to uphold common values, perform service on another's behalf, and fight for a brighter future. Bowman & Company LLP strongly supports veterans, as well as those that go above and beyond to recognize their service.

Bowman & Company LLP Partner Todd Saler, recently retired Partner Kirk Applegate, and Partner-Elect Michael Cragin recently attended the 2022 Camden Schools Foundation's scholarship award ceremony. Our three representatives presented a $2,500.00 scholarship award to Eliacim Cardona, who committed to Rowan University. This event celebrated 30 scholarship recipients and marked the 17th year of awards.

Bowman & Company LLP Partner Harry Wills - current president of the NJCPA - recently attended and spoke at the 62nd Annual Scholarship Awards Program. This program finances a variety of scholarships through the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, including the Bowman-funded Lisa A. Donahue scholarship (read this Bowman blog to learn more about the 2022 Lisa A. Donahue scholarship recipient).  Also included in this program is the John F. Dailey, Jr. scholarship, which was awarded to Justin Barnhard of Farleigh Dickinson University. The NJCPA Scholarship Fund has impacted the lives of numerous young aspiring accountants.

For many years, the NJ Society of CPA's (NJCPA) has honored the memory of former Bowman partner Lisa Donahue with a scholarship in her name. Lisa lost her battle with cancer fourteen years ago, but her dedication to her profession and the impact she had in the industry is remembered to this day thanks to the NJCPA and the sponsors of the NJCPA scholarship fund.
