The group formed under the Federal CIO Council – The Mobile Technology Tiger Team – recently released a standardized protection profile for mobile application development. This profile will be utilized to provide a baseline of security controls for agencies building their own mobile applications.

Released through the National Information Assurance Partnership, the new government-approved common criteria used for evaluation and validation acts as a roadmap during the development process.

Both the Defense Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have agreed to adopt the standards for all future application development. Additionally, the Defense Information Systems Agency developed a Department of Defense annex for defense systems.
