The NJ Sick leave Law is Going into Effect on October 28, 2018

Changes2018I wrote earlier this year (see detailed post here) about upcoming changes to sick leave policy in New Jersey.  Please be advised that the new law goes into effect on October 29, 2018, just a few days from now!  Is your business prepared?

Under the new law, most employers must provide up to a total of 40 hours of earned sick leave every benefit year. Employees accrue earned sick leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours of leave per benefit year. An employee can begin using earned sick leave accrued under this law 120 days after one begins employment.

One can use earned sick leave to take time off from work for themselves or family members and to attend school-related conferences, meetings or events regarding one’s child(ren).

For more information, please go to www.nj.gov/labor.

We recommend you contact your legal counsel for advice on your specific situation.
